That's so simple an answer everyone misses it. Panic sells, safety is boring. We can only infer from that statement, which everyone agrees with 100, that nothing is accomplished until it is thought and somehow like magic, it gets done.
How definitive of a future are we creating, because there is no road to the future that doesn't go through 'the now', if every human is focused solely on one objective? What is everyone on the face of the planet obsessed with 24/7? A deeper leveling on how to 'get money'. What 'gets money'? Panic. Therefore, it would be prudent to project that our future is not 'Utopia' but more like 'dystopian Superbia'.
The doomsday clock is anything but clever titling, it's not like the sign say 'Utopia Clock: Countdown to Joyous Joyful Joy!'. There is no countdown to utopia, we're all focused on a countdown to death; which would, by turns, be utopia for someone.
